What a whirlwind of a summer and fall we have had at Fort Rouge Co-op. So many activities.... from a visit from the petting farm with goats, chickens, rabbits, lambs and roosters to visits to parks far and near.
The Family Fun Picnic in late June was an astounding success. We enjoyed the beautiful weather while munching on salads and hot dogs. The children frolicked moving through various stations to participate in the face painting and water play activities which the staff offered to celebrate the day. Parents, siblings and grandparents joined in the festive day ending with the Fubuki Daiko drummers giving a wonderful show of their talents.
The children enjoyed the elongated warm weather into the fall so much so, the weather in the last week in October gave us an opportunity for an outdoor snack and picnic. Too sad that the weather turned a wee bit colder by Halloween but it certainly didn't stop our friends from enjoying the spooky activities here at the daycare and beyond.
The daycare held the Annual General Meeting on October 22nd. The turn out of parents was very good. After dinner and reports from the usual suspects a new Board of Directors was voted in, filling the positions of the outgoing members. We are happy to announce Christa Boulton will be our new Chairperson with Kirk Cumming acting as Vice-chair. Cheryl Scott is taking on the Treasurers position and Jess Sawers is continuing in the position of Recording Secretary. Michelle Frykas, Roberta Stout, Allison McFie and Susan Strike are all members at large. Thank you to all for coming out to make the election so democratically successful.
Once again the Halloween Howl was a huge spooktacular event. Children and Staff dressed in their favorite scarey costumes. We celebrated the day with pumpkin excavation and Jack'o'lantern carving. Faces were painted and gooey snacks were eaten. A group of children visited the Grandmas and Grandpas at the Thorvaldson's home. All enjoyed stories and fiendish songs before returning to the daycare to share tricks and treats with the remaining ghouls!
